In my previous post, the Mia Hamm quote is about celebrating your success and setting the bar higher. That's my goal. I just finished a motivational speech contest in Toastmasters and on February 17th, I will compete at the next level. Mia and others say we should enjoy our victories and [then] keep going. I will do that. Starting now. WAHOO! YIPPEE! HALLELUJAH!
And I'll keep writing. [You can click on the title of today's post or click here to read one or two of my recent articles.] Writing has helped me think about a lot of diverse areas which has helped me in creating my speech. I was told that The judges really noticed my creativity and noticed much of my speech was "from scratch." My goal was to be unique, memorable and motivational. In addition, I wanted to give the listeners tools to help them motivate themselves.
At different points in my speech I drew upon experience in personal and professional development work, years in Toastmasters, Bible reading, telling stories, watching movies, watching TV, listening to music, reading books, public and Catholic education, and more. I thank God for this chance and for the competition that brought out the ability to "take it up a notch" as one of my opponents and friends, Dori Klass put it. Today I'll go to Dori's house for our quarterly Toastmasters party and live it up a notch!

Good Things Happen When You Do Good
Have you heard about the guy who saved a man in a New York subway by covering him with his body while the subway ran over the top of them? His name is Wesley Autrey and I saw him on Letterman the other night. He's a hero and the title of today's post is a quote from him. Click on the title of today's post to see a little bit more on my Myspace blog.

Roger Ebert's Website
I like movies. I watched Siskel & Ebert for years with friends before Gene Siskel passed away.
If you like movies, you'll probably like Roger Ebert's site as well as Ebert & Roeper's reviews when you catch them on TV. Same goes for their reviews on the net. Every once in a while I strongly disagree. I still remember wondering what Siskel & Ebert were smoking when they gave two thumbs up to Kingpin. Probably the same thing that Time Warner was smoking when they merged as equals with AOL.

Are You An Adult Who Wants To Benefit Military Families?
Please do not visit this site if you are easily offended. As I read it, the site says that all profits will be donated to a fund supporting comfort homes where military families stay while their loved ones undergo medical treatment.

Blogging Since Compassionate Communication
Before Christ. That's how most people view B.C. when they see 40 B.C. I remember the first time I heard B.C.E when I saw Abba Eben on PBS. Being Christian and not as academic as I thought, I was not familiar with "Before The Christian Era" nor Abba Eben, the late former Israeli Foreign Minister.
I have experienced watershed events in my life before such as the death of both parents and a young niece, to name a few. I even remember being three or four and a neighborhood kid explaining to me that we die. That was an amazing realization. I have had some really positive watershed events like a personal saving relationship with Christ, getting married, the birth of my son and going through the personal growth [or personal development, if you prefer] work of Fran Cannon of Cannon Business Institute and his former partner, Michael Griffin.
As a Toastmaster, I am familiar with spoken communication.
Yet I was unfamiliar with Compassionate or Nonviolent Communication. My personal preference is for the term Compassionate Communication. Compassionate Communication is a watershed in communication and personal development for me. From now on I'll be blogging A.C.C. - After Compassionate Communication. I highly recommend Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life: Create Your Life, Your Relationships, and Your World in Harmony with Your Values.
There is a Myspace now, too. You can visit My Myspace by clicking on the title of the post or by visiting:
